The new single from his new album, “The ICEBERG” is out now.
In addition, I took (nearly) a year off from making any beats. It’s been a weird year for me. Aside from all of the iconic names taken away from us, and political warfare influenced by racial turmoil, I have managed to turn my MPC back on and start creating again. I produced two tracks for Substantial’s forth coming album “the past is always present in future”. I’ve also decided to start releasing beat tapes again. “X” (not affiliated with Malcolm) will come out in January.
If I haven’t mentioned already, I was recently issued an endorsement with Ludwig drums. They sponsored me during the Alwasta summer festival tour and the upcoming ICEBERG World Tour in 2017.
In any event, be on the lookout for some new music. I know its been a while. Thanks for still hanging around.
Oddisee announced that he will be releasing a new instrumental album on May 13, 2016.
This follows his recent release of the “Alwasta” EP. Both feature myself on drums.
In other news, I am pleased to announce that I am an official Ludwig drums artist. You can find me on tour playing exclusive Ludwig drums gear. find me at a city near you in the Shows page.
I completed my first world tour with Oddisee and GoodCompny in November of 2015. 57 shows in 68 days. Europe, Canada, and the US. It was long and grueling but an incredible experience. Needless to say, returning home to my wife and dog Dilla was an amazing homecoming. Since then, I’ve gotten back to work on my drum album with TFox. In addition to that, I re-recorded drums for Dave Kline’s new album, which I believe will be a great one. In the meantime, I’ve also been busy with my students at VMA. We had a great gala event with Ignacio Berroa as the guest feature drummer (who also gave a wonderful masterclass). Now the band prepares for their tour to CUBA! yes CUBA! I’ve waited years to visit and take in the culture as well as the music. I hope to learn a lot from the drummers (i’ll try to capture some video footage for you!). Stay tuned for another special beat tape to be released in early summer.
Its been quite a while since I have updated you on whats happening. So lets get started! Since I’ve returned from Brazil, I did another tour with Oddisee. We did mostly North American east coast cities and Canada. It was well represented and I’m sure we will be back to those cities next summer.
I taught a jazz history and jazz drumming class for the Virginia Music Adventures Summer Institute.
The Broadsound band played host to many weddings from the late summer through the fall. Although I had a lot of fun with the band, it sparked me to go get some custom in ear monitors to help me hear the band better. Thanks to Professional Hearing Services for the hookup! The Falls Church called me numerous times to play their Sunday morning services. They have an immaculate DW drum set complete with K Custom cymbals that are out of this world. I LOVE PLAYING THERE!!
As the holiday season has arrived, I am pleased to announce that I am the featured artist for Just One Record hosted by GUSTAV. While in Paris with Oddisee this past summer, I met up with the photographer, whom I met years ago while performing at the Sons d’Hiver festival in 2008 with Kokayi. He asked me to explain to him what one record inspired my music career. To find out, go to my facebook fan page for the link.
Lastly, I will be joined by my production partner (and best friend) Travis Fox as we begin work on my new album and debut drum album. Most of the music is produced by him, but all of them will be co-produced and directed by me. I’m very excited as I have always wanted to make an album that showcases my drumming. Listening to Vinnie Colaiuta, Sean Rickman, Dave Weckl, Billy Cobham, Philly Joe Jones, Art Blakey, and Max Roach have motivated me to create what they have brought to the musical world. I can’t wait to share with all my fans (yes both of you! HAHAHAHAHA! just kidding!). I will try to not let half a year go by before I update you again. PROMISE!! Happy Holidays to all!
Here is the latest interview from Vanguard Red in New Zealand by Martyn Pepperell. Enjoy!
